Colleen is a native of Michigan and has called San Diego home for the last 13 years. This year is her 11th year working for the HTH organization. She began as an 11th and 12th grade humanities teacher at the Gary and Jerri-Ann Jacobs HTH before leaving that position to be the founding school director of High Tech High Chula Vista, where she spent four years. Colleen also served as director of High Tech High International for two years. In 2014 Colleen returned to the classroom, staying at HTHI to teach 11th grade Humanities.

 

During the 2012, Colleen spent the summer teaching in South Africa as a Teach with Africa fellow, working with students and teachers in Ga Rankuwa at Leap 6. She has provided trainings on classroom management, project design, advanced project design, teacher training, school leadership and school culture, and methods of teaching writing and literature to educators and educational leaders in Michigan, Minnesota, Hawaii, and California as well as outside of the U.S. in Israel, South Africa, Kenya and Canada. Colleen has worked as a mentor for beginning teachers through the HTH Credentialing Program, and has also taught courses through the HTH Graduate School of Education, including the courses Leadership for School Design and Equity, Diversity, and Design Principles.

 

Colleen has her undergraduate from Grand Valley State University, a Masters degree from Bowling Green State University in Literature and Writing, and is a Ph.D. candidate through Purdue University in 19th Century Literature.

 

When she is not working and planning projects, she loves spending time outdoors running or at the zoo with her daughter.
